Bronson York

Bronson York, an Oregon born Californian, has been playing bassoon for twelve years, eight of those years under the instruction of Dr. Steve Vacchi. He holds two degrees from the University of Oregon in performance where he also received two awards in outstanding performance. Bronson is currently attending the University of Oregon pursuing his doctoral degree in performance.

Bronson is currently the principal bassoonist of the Rogue Valley Symphony and a freelance bassoonist in the Eugene area. He plays with several ensembles in the area including Orchestra Next, Oregon Bach Festival, Eugene Symphony, Eugene Opera, and various others such as the Shedd’s Microphilharmonic. Bronson occasionally gigs in the Portland area with ensembles such as the Portland Baroque Orchestra. Being an advocate of new music, Bronson also preforms with the Composers of Oregon Contemporary Orchestra, under the direction of Brian McWhorter as well as several other ensembles dedicated to playing new music. He also was a recording artist for several electronic music artists including Medium Troy, RJD2, Lafa Taylor, Beats Antique and TroyBoi. Most recently Bronson started performing with the Pacific Northwests premiere reed quintet The nonesuch.reedquintet.

Bronson is also the founder the Pacific Artists Collective, created in March of 2017 to offer the students of the University of Oregon an opportunity to create music in an entirely student run ensemble. This ensemble has started a trend at the University of Oregon of interdisciplinary collaboration through there fun and innovative programs. More recently Bronson founded the Oregon Virtuosi, an ensemble with the goal of bringing varied and accessible to the Eugene community.

Bronson is very passionate about teaching the bassoon, having improved his life immensely through pursuing his love for the bassoon, Bronson is excited to have the opportunity to instill this drive and passion into all of his students.
